what is TOPIK? (Test of Proficiency in Korean)

Hello, guys~!!!!! 안녕하세요!

I'm so sorry for not updating my blog, I have been busy since the new semester has already started. I have been thinking about this topic a long time ago, but now I finally managed to do it despite having mock TOPIK tomorrow (wish me luck and pray for me guys!!!! pretty handsome please).

What is TOPIK?
You will notice this word many times in your KGSP application paper and study in Korea website or in any other Korean education website. You only need to get TOPIK level 3 for this 1 year before going to your own University. So basically TOPIK is stand for Test of Proficiency in Korean. For those who may not know about this; TOPIK consists two test which is TOPIK 1 and TOPIK 2 and it will be valid for 2 years. Each of them has a different kind of level, which is :
  • TOPIK 1: Level 1 & 2 (Reading: multiple choices question & Listening: multiple choices question  )
  • TOPIK 2: Level 3,4,5 & 6 (Reading, Listening & Writing)
  • Additional Information: If you guys manage to get level 5 or  6 in this 1 year your scholarship will add up 100,000won

This is the passing mark for each level
For the student that will do their language at Dongseo University, you guys will need to take TOPIK 1 & 2 in the first semester, if you guys are studying the Korean language for the first time or to be exact you are been placed in class A or B. After that you guys will continue on learning for TOPIK 2 which is more difficult as the word will be much more complicated. But don't worry guys our teacher will make sure all of us passed the TOPIK exam.

Language School will prepare everything for you guys, the only thing that you need to do is just pay the examination fees. TOPIK examination will be held at selected University, so you guys need to go there by yourself and for your information, TOPIK examination will always be on Sunday. During the exam, they will provide you with a special pen and you can only use that pen to answer all the question and you can bring your own correction pen (paper version not the liquid).

My first TOPIK examination TOPIK 1

TOPIK 2 Exam

Alhamdulillah I managed to do really well in my TOPIK 1 and get level 2 (it's quite easy..so don't worry guys!) but luck was not on my side in TOPIK 2 as I didn't manage to pass with a few points away for level 3, but I know God does have a plan for me, so I must not give up and I need to do my best for this upcoming TOPIK in April and if passed it this time, it will be the greatest birthday gift ever for this year as for last year Allah gave me KGSP results on my birthday too. It would be nice to if you guys can pray for me (thanks, a lot in advance guys!). I hope this post can clear everything about TOPIK examination in the future. As for my advice, learn basic Korean before you come for your KGSP program, and trust me it will help you a lot!!!

sincerely,
Your Bella

Personal Statement, Statement of Purpose, Notarization

Well hello, future KGSP candidates!!!
I have been asked a lot about this topic right here that related to the personal statement, statement of purpose and notarization of the document. So, I think I should write something about this :) so stay tuned.

First thing first that you need to know is the meaning of "notarize" itself, so now that you know it easy to do the next step, which is who can notarize it? You can get notarizing your copy of the original document from the notary public in your country or in Malaysia you can go to the Court/ University/ lawyer to get the CTC (Certified True Copy) stamp as for notary public usually you need to pay.

Example stamp that I manage to get from my best friend who is a lawyer! thanks, Farah Yasmin

Please bear in mind that if your document is using other than Korean or English, you need to translate it first, then get it notarize. For Malaysian, you can use your birth certificate, IC or passport to prove your nationality and in the new birth certificate, it will show your parents information as well.

example of the new birth certificate in Malaysia
I kind of a really detailed person, so I do prepare all the document (birth certificate, IC, and passport) and just notarize it because as a precaution if anything happens and I make 3 copy from all of the document needed and notarize it. Only 1copy that I will send and another 2 I will do it as a backup document (I get the notarization for another 2 document after the second round results been announced as there were some of the senior said that you need to have those document after you wanted to change your visa to D2 in South Korea when you have finish your language school).

Personal Statement and Statement of Purpose

I do not have any references too during my application, so I not saying that mine is a good example or the right one but what I can advise to all future KGSP candidates is, just be yourself and be sincere in writing your personal statement. Show that you are really truly eager to get this scholarship, show to them that you are the best from the best, write about South Korea achievement in education or technology, give reasons why you wanted to pursue your study here and if you were applicant thru university track, just state why did you choose that university. Do not even mention about Kdrama Kpop or Kwave as this scholarship is not about entertainment!!! It is about education and please do some research about this lovely and advanced country if you don't know anything others than entertainment. Because South Korea has more than entertainment. You can even write up about their culture too. As for me, I even write about South Korea history as I love the history that much!!!! Be creative guys!!!!

Use this as references :) because I know people that applying for this scholarship is a way to smart rather than copying others people essays. Its just simple essays and don't think that hard just be yourself!

Anything just leaves a comment below and your email too! or just email to me, your question  at nabeelaami91@gmail.com

Language School- University Dormitory

well hello, guys!!! welcome back. I'm really sorry for not actively updating my blog since I finally manage to go back to my hometown during this winter vacation, I will make a new blog post about that because in this blog post I would like to share with all future KGSP student about Language School dormitory. I manage to gather only 6 universities dormitory ( Dongseo University, Busan University for Foreign Studies (BUFS), Sun Moon University, Pai Chai University, Daegu University and Konyang University).

So for KGSP student who needs to undergo 1 year of language training, you should know that your language school will not be the same as your undergraduate or graduate University. NIIED will distribute all the student according to their graduate school location/region. For example, if your graduate school is located in Seoul, they will send you for language training outside Seoul. This is to make sure that you can experience all the Korean culture in different city or region. Just like me, as my graduate University KOREATECH will be in Cheonan which is not far from Seoul, soo for my language school NIIED locate me at Dongseo University which in Busan,5 hours from Seoul. I really like this idea because now I know what is the culture in Busan and I can differentiate and even make a comparison with others region, so good job NIIED!!!! and now I fall in love with Busan.

You will meet up with others KGSP student that is from different graduate university, and this is how you can add up your friend's list and wherever you go next time in South Korea you will have them to help you, isn't it just amazing!!!

Dongseo University, Busan.

Maps of DSU campus

So, guys, this is my language school. All KGSP student in Dongseo will stay at International House 2 which is located next to IFLE building. All classes will be held in IFLE building, you only need 2 minutes to arrive at the classroom, so don't worry too many guys! and this dormitory provides a kitchen so you can cook your own food because there is another language school that doesn't provide it. You will be paired up as a roommate with others student, and after one semester you can change your roommates if you want to. For International House 2 there was no curfew and roll call, so you can freely enjoy your life without any distraction. By the way, you need to pay for dormitory fees by your own (using your scholarship). For DSU the dormitory fees for 1 semester is 500,000won, the dormitory fees are different in each university.

Busan University for Foreign Studies (BUFS)

From what I know  :
  • They don't have a kitchen in their dormitory, and they have the curfew.
  • Located at Namsan station line 1.
  • Such a beautiful University!!!! (been there for TOPIK 2 exam).

Sun Moon University, Cheonan.

From what I know  :
  • They have a kitchen in their dormitory.
  • 2 double decker bed but only 2 people stay in that room (2 extra bed).
  • It takes only 1 hour to go to Seoul.
  • In Cheonan they do have Asian mart (halal mart), they do have Shinsegae and Emart.
  • Looks like winter resort during winter :)

Pai Chai University, Daejon.

From what I know  :

  • They do have roll call and curfew.
  • Easy to purchase things from Emart.
  • Really snowy during winter.

Busan One Asia Festival : 부산 원아시아페스티벌 (BOF)

Busan One Asia Festival 2017 was held from 22 until October 31. There are many artists were participants in this festival. I was really lucky to be able to attend the opening ceremony is located at  Busan Asiad Main Stadium (부산 아시아드주경기장) the lineup artist was really amazing and  I can't lie, I go there because of Wanna One.

I never really a fan of K-pop, I listen to K-pop song before but I never a fanatic fans of a group but Isna my dearest best friends introduce me to Wanna One. Wanna One is a group that forms from a reality shows "Produce 101 seasons 2" that combines or gather all the trainee from many recording companies. After doing some research and watch that program I was really in love with the group, they were to perfect for each other, but the saddest things is they will be disbanded after one year debut as a group. So I grab this chance to watch them live in this concert. There were many activities during the festival such as fan meeting, mini concert and much more, but I only manage to go to the opening concert.
